New Delhi: Tata Steel Plant located in Odisha’s Meramandali was hit by a leak of steam which resulted in the hospitalization of many of employees as claimed in the firm’s official announcement. Although Odisha TV reported that 19 people were hurt, Tata Steel has yet to confirm the report.

Tata Steel expressed their sorrow in the wake of the incident. They stated, “We regret to inform about an accident that occurred at the BFPP2 power plant that was caused by a leak of steam at Tata Steel Meramandali Works in Dhenkanal, Odisha,” in their announcement.

The site is secured and emergency services are initiated as per the statement from the company.

“The incident occurred at noon today as part of an inspection. It affected the workers on the premises. They were swiftly transferred to the occupational health clinic located within the plant’s premises then transported to Cuttack for additional medical care to prevent any further harm. Transportation was organized in the company’s ambulance. It was assisted by paramedics and a doctor,” explained Tata Steel.

Tata Steel said it has contacted the family members of the affected employees and is supporting them.
